The first and most important thing is to understand your business goals and target audience. Know exactly who you're talking to, and how best to communicate with them.

THEN work out which tools will best help achieve those goals. There's nothing to be gained by setting up a social media account, without first knowing exactly what you would like to achieve out of it, who you want to communicate with, and how you'll go about doing that.

Although social media is designed to be easy to use, as a business owner you will gain the best results if you have a good understanding of the steps required, and the best order to perform them in, to maximise value to your business.

  • An analysis of your organisation (it's important to know WHY you're doing all this!).
  • Determination of the best platforms which will help your organisation realise its goals. These may include Facebook, Google Business Profile, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, or something else.
  • Create and configure identified social media accounts.
  • Create and configure required advertising accounts.
  • Set up your first ad campaign (if required).
  • Provide training.
