Near the end of a project, new website owners often ask "now that I've got a website - what should I do next?" Good question!

The best way to promote your business online is to get your website as close to Page 1 on search engines (ie. Google or Bing) as possible. But this isn't easy, because everybody wants to be on Page 1.

Google uses over 200 algorithms to determine where websites appear on their search engine results, and nobody really knows exactly what they all are because Google keeps them secret.

However, consider Google's goals:

  1. They want to provide the best results for people who perform searches, so people keep using them.
  2. To do this, they need to offer up good, original content, and the right content to answer the search question.

The first and best thing you can do is help Google. Ensure your website has good Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). WebSolutionZ implement SEO as part of every website project so you're already on the way.

Next, ensure your website is in front of the people you want to see it. This means email marketing, social media marketing and more. The more clicks that come into your site, the more Google thinks your site is important.

Can I do anything myself for free?

Sure!

First, make sure they know you're there! Share your new website, and share some individual pages from it. If you have social media or client email lists, share away! If you need help with online communications, please click here.

Ensure your website has been submitted to major search engines for indexing. When you create a new page, submit the new URL to Google here, and Bing here. This lets the bots know to come back and visit you, which usually takes a few days.

List your website on some directory sites. It pays to be discerning - if Google doesn't like a directory then your site may be better off without!

  • Check with your local government/council and see if they have a business directory
  • Industry-specific directories

Obviously, you can also pay. Make sure you investigate the costs etc. carefully, to ensure you're getting the "most bang for your buck". We can help you set up Search Engine Marketing (SEM) campaigns, or teach you how to set them up yourself.
