How do I get AI content to sound like my business?

One of the most common complaints about AI-generated content is that it all sounds the same – generic, slightly formal and a little too polished to feel authentic. The reason is usually not the tool – it’s that the tool doesn’t know anything about you or your business.

Out of the box, AI tools are trained on enormous amounts of general content. Without specific instructions about how your business communicates, they default to a kind of average business voice that could belong to anyone. The fix is configuration, not a different tool.

What personalising AI actually involves

Getting AI to sound like your business means giving it the right context before you ask it to do anything. This includes:

  • How your business communicates – your tone, your terminology, the things you always say and the things you never say.
  • Who your audience is – what they care about, how they talk, what level of technical detail is appropriate.
  • What you’ve already written – existing content is the best source of your actual voice. Blog posts, emails, website copy and client reports all contain more information about how you communicate than any written description could.
  • Your preferences and rules – Australian English spelling, no AI pattern phrases, specific formatting preferences, anything that makes your content distinctly yours.

When these are documented and loaded into your AI tool as instructions, the output shifts noticeably. It starts to sound like it came from you rather than from a generic content machine.

The AI knowledgebase concept

A structured AI knowledgebase takes this further. Rather than re-explaining your context every time you start a new conversation, you build a set of reference documents that tell your AI tools everything they need to know about your business – once. From that point, you can provide the same instructions to every AI tool you use, and then every piece of content generation starts from the right place.

This is the approach we use for our own own content generation. It’s been tested and documented, and it’s working really well. If you’re interested in building the same capability for your business, we offer AI Adoption services – please get in touch to discuss what’s involved.
