The Future Is Accessible

Name: The Future Is Accessible
Address: https://thefutureisaccessible.au
Project: Website design and development
Status: Complete, June 2025

The Future Is Accessible is an advocacy platform focused on improving accessibility and inclusion across public transport, digital platforms and broader equity initiatives.

Goal: To create a fully accessible and inclusive website that serves as a central hub for advocacy – featuring blog posts, interviews, resources and campaign updates – while also supporting independent content contributions from people with lived experience of disability.

Requirements: The platform needed to support intuitive navigation for all users, including those using assistive technologies. It also had to be easy to update and maintain, ensuring compatibility with digital accessibility standards while allowing contributors to publish content independently.

Recommendation: We built the site on WordPress 6.8 using the Twenty Twenty-Five theme for its strong accessibility foundations, and investigated other accessibility options to enhance usability. Accessibility testing was conducted in collaboration with blind and low-vision contributors to confirm full admin panel usability.

Outcomes: The website now serves as an inclusive and fully accessible platform for advocacy, education and community engagement. It empowers contributors with lived experience to share insights and resources, while maintaining an intuitive user experience and streamlined content management. The solution supports ongoing growth without compromising accessibility compliance.
