Name: Melbourne Graduate School of Education
Project: Proof of concept
Status: Complete, January 2022
The Melbourne Graduate School of Education is a global leader in teacher education and applied research in learning environments.
Overview: The project involved designing and delivering a secure web-based Proof of Concept (PoC) to demonstrate the feasibility of the Mathematics Assessment In Number (MAiN) Assessment Tools project – a mathematics-based diagnostic assessment aimed at mapping individual student learning progress.
Project highlights:
- Discovery and strategic planning using Design Thinking to clarify vision, user roles and data flow
- Prototype development with three user levels – student, teacher and coordinator – each with role-specific navigation and outcomes
- Interactive features included multi-page forms, simulated results pages and a structured resources section grounded in academic research
- Password-protected, standalone demo environment with no external integrations to safeguard grant conditions and prototype integrity
- Final delivery of a Technical Recommendations document outlining options and considerations for an enterprise-scale build in future
- Collaboration with Microsoft cloud partners to validate future-facing architecture and deployment pathways
Outcomes: The PoC successfully visualised how teachers could engage with a digital assessment tool in one-on-one settings, offering a roadmap for future development. The platform made complex academic research tangible for decision-makers and laid the foundation for a scalable national implementation.
