Beware of Domain name scammers

In the past week, two clients have contacted us to ask if they should pay a domain name renewal that has been sent to them in the mail.

Short answer – NO!

Domain records are public, and there are some dodgy operators out there who will scan these records and send letters, hoping you will pay their inflated prices without thinking about it.  This practice is apparently not illegal, although it’s highly unethical.

WebSolutionZ is happy to provide guidance on this, and can assist by setting up a domain registrar account in the client’s name. We’ll register the domain within that account and configure DNS records to ensure everything directs appropriately.

We strongly encourage clients to email us before paying any renewal notices. We’ve saved multiple clients from falling for these scams over the years – a quick check can make all the difference.
