Creating a Facebook Page

A Facebook Page allows businesses, public figures and organisations to build and connect with their audience while managing their professional presence on Facebook.

Why create a Facebook Page?

A Facebook Page is still worth having for most small businesses. It’s where a large portion of your existing audience already spends time, and it gives customers a way to find, contact and recommend you.

One underrated reason is the network of local community pages and groups on Facebook. Many suburbs have active community pages that follow and share local business content – it’s word of mouth at scale. If your business isn’t on Facebook, you can’t be tagged or shared by those communities. Instagram doesn’t have the same local group structure.

If you’re already on Instagram, cross-posting to a Facebook Page takes almost no extra effort through your Meta account. It’s worth doing.

How to create a Facebook Page

To create a Facebook Page, you first need a personal Facebook account. If you don’t have one, visit Facebook to sign up.

Step 1: Choose your Page type

There are two ways to create a Facebook Page:

  1. Via the Pages menu – click Pages in the sidebar and follow the setup prompts.
  2. Through Meta for Business (formerly Facebook Business Suite) – create a Business Page.

Using Meta for Business allows you to manage a business Instagram account from one dashboard.

Step 2: Set up your Page

Facebook will guide you through the setup process, including:

  • Adding your business name, category and description.
  • Uploading a logo and cover image.
  • Setting up contact details and operating hours.
  • Customising your call-to-action button (e.g. Contact Us, Shop Now).

Step 3: Optimise your Page

Once created, keep your Page active by:

  • Posting regularly and cross-posting from Instagram if you use it.
  • Responding to messages and comments.
  • Using Facebook Insights to track what’s working.
  • Setting up WhatsApp integration if you want customers to message you directly.
  • Using the QR code for reviews feature to make it easy for customers to leave a Google review.
  • Facebook offers AI-generated post suggestions – these can be a useful starting point but edit them before publishing so they sound like your business.
