General information about Joomla!, website design & development, social media and more.
So, what exactly IS Joomla!?
Joomla! is an award-winning Content Management System (CMS) that will help you build websites and other powerful online applications. Best of all, Joomla! is an open source solution that is freely available to everybody. So all you have to pay for is the development of your website, not the software.
For further information, please visit the Joomla website.
WebSolutionZ build websites using Joomla! which is an open-source Content Management System (CMS). Joomla! is easy to use, so a Joomla! website owner can update their own website anytime. Open-source means there is no charge for the base software and you are not "locked in" to a specific developer.
In a Joomla! CMS website, the content is separated from the site structure, so it is simple for website owners to change their own content without going near the "look and feel".
It is vitally important that your Joomla! website is administered correctly so that it remains secure. Joomla! website administration must be performed via the website back-end, with full super-administrator access.
In short, yes. However, it is important to understand the following.
WebSolutionZ offer a "complete package" - website design/development, website hosting, and ongoing security and maintenance, as well as domain name registrations. This means all web-related invoices come from us, which in some instances has assisted clients who regularly receive scam or fake correspondence - they know they can safely ignore it if it isn't from us.
If you prefer to have "sole custody" of your website then we recommend setting up your own domain name and website hosting. We can build the website in your own account, and once the project is complete you can remove our Joomla! access and change your passwords.
A domain name can be transferred to a different registrar at any time. A domain password is required to commence the transfer. We are happy to provide the domain password upon request.
Because we build websites using Joomla! CMS and readily available components sourced via the Joomla! Extension Directory (JED), you may choose to migrate your website to a different developer at any time. Additionally, your website includes backup software, which enables you to perform backups that can be restored in any other hosting location if required.
Further details regarding ownership are available in the Website Development Contract, which is signed prior to the commencement of a project.
In short - responsive web design = smartphone- and tablet-friendly.
All websites that WebSolutionZ develop utilise Responsive Design-friendly templates, which means the site resizes automatically according to the device it is viewed on - ie. smartphone and tablet friendly. This means you only need one website and one URL. However, it also means we must carefully consider how the website is laid out, and try to take all possible "rearrangements" into account.
Choosing colours for your website can be challenging so here are some links I often use to help me find that perfect combination:
Good luck! :)
When choosing a business name, it's also important to check that an appropriate domain name is available.
In Australia, domain name policy, licensing and accreditation are managed by .au Domain Administration Ltd (auDA). However, auDA do not directly register domain names. This is handled by accredited domain name registrars.http://www.auda.org.au
Although Joomla! has built-in functionality for SEO, and a WebSolutionZ website package includes some basic keywords and meta-descriptions, unfortunately there are just not enough hours in the day to do large-scale SEO! However, it's not that difficult if you have the time to dedicate to it. Here are some links you may find useful:
Your new WebSolutionZ hosting account comes with the ability to set up a nominated number of POP3 email accounts.
Social media is HUGE! If you're just starting out you may find some of these links useful:
To create a Facebook Page for your business, you first need to have a personal account. If you aren't already using Facebook, please visit http://www.facebook.com to join.Once you've created your personal profile, click on the "Pages" menu on the right-hand side, or click on this link. It will look similar to this:Select an appropriate category. This may be changed later so don't worry about getting it wrong. As a rule, if you are a business with a physical street address you would select "Local business or place" - this allows you to also create a Place (where people can checkin). If you don't have a physical street address you may prefer to select "Company, organisation or institution". Each category offers different options to display, so once the Page is created it may be worth spending some time changing categories to see how your information is best displayed.Facebook will lead you through the steps to create your Page, add descriptions, upload a logo, create a custom address (ie. www.facebook.com/YourURLHere), invite friends and add to your own favourites. You may skip any of these steps if you aren't sure what to do, as it can all be done later on.At this stage, if you require further assistance with setting up your Page, please send me the URL of your newly created Page so that I can Like it.Once I Like the Page (you will be notified), please click on the "Show" button to display the Admin Panel, then click on the "See Likes" link on the Get More Likes box. Next to my name you should see a "Make Admin" box. Please click on that.If you would like to further refine your Page information, click on the "Edit Page" button at the top-right.For further information about Pages, please click here.
