The Melbourne Graduate School of Education is a global leader in teaching and education research.
Goal: The defined goal of the project was to strategically plan and deliver a Proof of Concept (PoC) website/portal for the Melbourne Graduate School of Education’s Mathematics Assessment In Number (MAiN) Assessment Tools project.
Requirements: The Client obtained a grant to run a pilot/PoC project to develop a standalone web-based platform which will enable teachers to provide one-on-one testing of students, in order to ascertain their level of learning against the curriculum. The academic research that informed the logic behind the choice of questions and their weighting was completed prior to commencement of this project.
As a POC with potential commercial outcomes, it was important that the project not be publicly available.
Recommendation: A PoC typically involves a small-scale visualisation exercise to demonstrate and verify the potential real-life application of an idea. It is not the full delivery of the concept, but a demonstration of feasibility. WebSolutionZ recommended a standalone web-based demonstration within no external integrations visually demonstrate the concept, and to place the demonstration behind password security to prevent general visitation. Given the different security levels and different views per level required, we chose to use Joomla.
Outcomes: The POC was designed to be "used" by 3 user levels (student, teacher and coordinator) each having access to different pages and menu options, and simulated results pages for relevant user levels. It included 3 multi-page forms and a teaching resources section which utilised the academic research. The overall target audience was decision makers who will decide on the feasibility of the tool.
The last stage of the project was development of formal Technical Recommendations documentation designed to outline learnings from the Proof of Concept project and including information and recommendations relevant to future development of an enterprise scale system.
